Hummingbird
A looped homemade plastic film strip with hearts drawn unto it with feeder-holes that were made with a candle heated needle.
Plastic filmloop, acrylic & projector. Dimensions and duration variable. 2011.
A hummingbird’s heart rate can reach as high as 1260 beats per minute. I had a phobia when I was younger, between 8 and sometime in my early teens, about the shape of drawn hearts which I couldn’t stand. Every time I drew a heart I felt like I had to erase it immediately. In this work the hearts slowly scratch and erase themselves running through the wheels of the projector.
