Bug zappers, mosquito net, LED lights, acrylic glass, x-ray prints, gold lacquer, spray paint, steel, chain & obsidian
80x264x80 cm, 2023
A sculpture composed of several parts.
Suspended through the center is a spine of mosquito lights, paradoxically enclosed by a hood of mosquito netting. It attracts and repels, creating a strong moiré effect. On the upper plane, there is a circling swarm of moths made from X-ray prints. Below them are four empty lacquer bowls illuminated by grow lights. These bowls have been broken and mended with the same cracking pattern, as if the same accident has occurred repeatedly. A double spiral travels down to a slab of uncut black volcanic glass, which serves as the anchor for the composition. On the floor and throughout the surrounding area, an interference pattern of light and shadow radiates outward.
